To get started, watch the video below and print out the worksheet. Have your child follow along each day. Mrs. Karle will tell you exactly what to do. I’ve never heard of this concept. Immediately I’m wondering what age group does this start with. My son is fairly young but I’ve seen programs like “your baby can read” so I wasn’t sure 🙂 Thanks for sharing this free item with us at Countdown in Style! Thanks for stopping by!! In terms of the best age to start… we have a free reading readiness test that will help you determine when is best to start with your child. Typically you would start somewhere between 4 and 6, when your child is starting to recognize letters, and noticing words. I started with my three year old last summer..and he could do day 1 and 2, but then when we got to three, you could tell he would need a lot of practice before moving on. SO, we just took a break. When children are ready, they will learn quickly and easily…their brain will just be ready for it. Our program is different from “My baby can read” because we teach the sight words in context. (We also are teaching sight words, not simple nouns that a baby might see around the home). Eighty percent of words that children read are sight words- words that cannot be sounded out. IF the students know these words, they will succeed 80% of the time! The children in our learn the words in the context of a sentence, which enhances learning and understanding of the text. Also, we believe children will learn quickly and easily when their brain is ready to learn. There is no need to sit in front of a TV for a long time looking at the same word over and over. Great video. She has a pleasant voice for a child to listen to. I will need to investigate further for my third grade student who is struggling. Thanks.
Thanks! I think we probably can help your struggling third grader. Feel free to email me and I am happy to help with specific concerns. We offer a free reading readiness test and free sight word test. Test your third grader using the sight word test and see if he/she can read the words instantaneously. At the point where he/she struggles, start our program at that point. If you find that they know the sight words, then work on the phonics videos that we offer. They may seem basic to a third grader but a little bit of extra practice will go a long way and give them the confidence they need.
I am homeschooling my kindergarten granddaughter. Mrs. Karle’s Sight and Sound Reading program is wonderful. We are on Day 50, and it is amazing what she has learned already. Thank you so much for this great program. It is just what I needed to get my granddaughter started on a solid foundation.

I teach a preschool special education class. I have a child who just turned 5. He is autistic. He was completely nonverbal less than 2 years ago when I got him. He did not eat food at all. He had no means of communication. Now here we are almost 2 years later and he recognizes all upper and lower case letters of the alphabet and can put them in alphabetical order. He can count to 30 and put numbers in numerical order. He eats almost everything we give him. He still does not communicate very effectively but we are working on that. He still has meltdowns but not nearly as often and he is not toilet trained. I know he would not be successful in the regular program yet. I will keep him one more year and my goal is to have him reading before he leaves me (among other goals!). This program looks like just what I need for my little friend. I am looking forward to starting it with him. I had planned on starting with sight words then move into phonics, which is exactly what your program does. I can’t wait till August now!!
