Do you want to make an elf?

Well, we have been doing a lot of cut, color and paste crafts recently.  Today is no different.  We are going to make an elf.  Do you want to make an elf?  My kids love these cut/paste activities.  They also love those sticker scene things.  Our doctor frequently hands them out as part of a “treat” after the doctor.  I like to use them for fine motor practice and just a few minutes of uninterrupted quiet time.  Before we begin, though, I always like to recommend a book or two that you can read before beginning your craft with your little one.  Here are a few of our favorite books about elves!

Madreen Karle is a master first grade reading teacher with over 30 years of classroom experience. She taught reading in a special needs and English as a Second Language classroom. After retiring she wrote a reading program to help others learn how to teach reading. She is a trusted educator and author of 5 books to help teach children to read and write. In addition to her books, she is a mentor for 3 websites that give reading teacher tips (Mrs. Karle’s Sight and Sound ReadingMrs. Karle’s Reading Patch, and Mrs. Karle’s Handwriting Patch). Through her teaching she learned that confidence was the key to learning to read. A child who is not confident at reading does not like to read and struggles to read. Mrs. Karle created “sunshine moments” to help teach children how to grow their confidence and learn to read.
Meeghan Karle Mousaw (Madreen’s daughter) has her Master’s in Special Education. She has 8 years experience teaching children to read online. In addition, she developed a curriculum to teach children handwriting called The Handwriting Patch. With the Handwriting Patch learning is fun because children learn to draw and learn handwriting at the same time. In 2019 The Handwriting Patch curriculum became an amazon best seller the first year it was released, helping thousands of kids learn handwriting with a unique, fun method. She is mom to 6 kids, each with differently learning abilities and struggles.
The Reading Patch was established by the creators of Mrs. Karle’s Sight and Sound Reading. Together they have been featured on the NBC media outlets and Parents Magazine online. Over the last 8 years in their online platform, Madreen and Meeghan have worked tirelessly with teachers, homeschoolers and parents looking to help children learn to read to become a trusted authority in teaching children to read and advocating early literacy skills. They often partner with other educational experts to deliver the most current information to the Reading Patch community.

  1. How cute! This would be a fun one from our Elf on the Shelf to bring one day! Thanks for sharing at the Thoughtful Spot!

  2. I can’t find the link to download the elf.

    1. Hi there, Sorry you are having trouble. You have to enter in your email into the form on the sheet and it gets emailed to you. I will email it to you. 🙂 Let me know if you don’t get it!

Having trouble getting it to email to me. I have marked the necessary boxes above

    1. So sorry you had trouble. Here are some common solutions…

Did you enter in your email into the form so that the freebie is sent to you? You have to enter your email into the form each time so that the correct freebie is sent to you. (You are not re-added to the email list -the system is smart enough to know you are already on the list).

Did you get the email with the link to the freebie? Sometimes things go to the spam box. I have 2 different servers…one that sends the freebie and the next one signs you up for the newsletter. If you got an email from me that did not have your freebie you requested, it means that the freebie email was sent -but likely went into spam.

If you got the email with the freebie link in it…can you click the link in the email? If you can click the link, then your freebie will either download into your download folder or it will open in a new tab in your browser. Did you check your download folder? That is where the download will go once you click the link. Did you check a new tab in your browser?

Another common problem is sometimes you get the email and it has the link -but it is not hyperlinked…in which case you have to copy/paste the link into the browser and it will download into the download folder.

Anyway, have you tried those things and are you still having trouble? If so, just reply back and I will attach it for you 🙂 (You can email me at [email protected] and I will help you through email too!)

I just like to first let people know common problems to help you next time. 🙂 You can always feel free to message me -but, I try to teach people with common issues because I have lots of people to help…so, teaching helps cut that down a little bit 🙂 Let me know if you still are having trouble and I will attach! I know that sometimes computers are silly and don’t sent things we ask them too…so, if you can’t find your freebie you requested, just let me know -I am happy to attach! Enjoy the worksheets!

  4. Thanks for the great idea!

    1. So glad you like them! To get the free activities you enter your name/email into the blue form on the site and they get automatically emailed to you. I am not sure if you did this or not so I am going to request it for you now, just to make sure you get them. Enjoy!

  5. Stephanie Garber says:

    Can’t wait to try this!

  6. Patricia Prinzbach says:

I cannot get free elf. I entered my e-mail

    1. Hi there, It looks like you are trying to get our free download. To get your freebie you enter your email into the light blue box on the page. I WILL DO THAT FOR YOU NOW. Then…. check your spam folder…sometimes things go there. The freebie has a subject of “Here is your free download!” …Inside that email there is a link. That link, if you click on it, the download will either popup in a new tab or download into your download folder. Sometimes that link does not come hyperlinked. If that happens you have to copy/paste the link into a new browser tab and it will then open for you. If you have trouble with this, though, send me an email ([email protected]) and I will help you!
