Patriot Day is a day to remember and reflect.  Each year on Patriot day, my family remembers, reflects, prays and celebrates our country and all those that protect and defend our country.   My children are all still little (I have five children under 8), so, we have not discussed the events of September 11th yet.  But, that does not mean we cannot take time to think about what makes America great, and celebrate the freedom we have.  With the older children, I do discuss that on Patriot day, America was attacked and many people were killed.    One way remember, reflect and mourn is by visiting a local cemetery and looking for soldier’s graves.  (We do this on Memorial Day too).  On Memorial Day there are usually flags displayed over each of the soldiers grave sites.  It is a bit harder on Patriot Day to find flags, but many times families have place flags by their loved ones graves.  My children love this activity.  Every time we pass a cemetery, they proudly shout when they find a solder’s grave.  I then remind them to prayer for the solider and their families and to thank them for their service.  Anyway, if you wish to download a few free printable worksheets to give to your beginning reader to help them reflect on Patriot Day, Please fill out the form below to sign up for our newsletter and to get your free worksheet.
