Pete the Cat Styrofoam Cup Craft

(This craft was inspired by a Pete the Cat Book! You can out more about Pete the Cat on his website!) The Pete the Cat books are so much fun and teach kids valuable lessons about life. Kids usually love the Pete the Cat books because of their simple stories, silly structure, and bright colors. Bring Pete the Cat to life by transforming a simple Styrofoam or paper cup into your very own Pete the Cat! Kids will love making this Pete the Cat Styrofoam Cup craft and keeping him on their bookshelves at home.  If you have never read Pete the Cat books, you should!  he is a groovy cat that children love!  Here are some of our favorite books!

Pete the Cat Styrofoam Cup Craft

What you’ll need to make the Pete the Cat craft:< ul>

• 1 Styrofoam or paper cup per child
• Yellow paper
• Glue paper
• White paper
• Scissors
• Glue stick
• Pipe cleaner (1 per cat)
• Blue markers

Styrofoam Pete the Cat Craft Directions

1. Give a cup to each kid. If you can’t find blue cups, you can color in a white cup with blue markers like we did. The kids had a lot of fun coloring in the cups. I think it was their favorite part of this craft.
   
2. If you’re using markers, you’ll need to let the cup dry a bit. While the cup is drying, give each child 4 strips of blue paper. This will become Pete’s arms and legs.
3. Show the kids how to fold the paper with the accordion fold. You can give Pete straight arms and legs, but I liked how the folded paper looked.
   
4. Cut a tail for each Pete from blue paper. Cut two yellow eyes and a white nose for each Pete. Cut a pipe cleaner into six pieces for his whiskers.
5. Let the kids glue the eyes, arms, legs, tail, nose, and whiskers onto Pete the Cat. Make sure the glue is dry before the kids take Pete home. The whiskers will take the longest to dry, but if you lay the cup flat while drying, they shouldn’t fall off of the cup’s face.
   When the glue is dry, set Pete on a bookshelf to monitor reading activities!
