Thanksgiving Activities for Kindergarten

There are so many fun Thanksgiving Activities for Kindergarten you can do to help learn, enjoy and celebrate Thanksgiving with the little people in your life.  You may even sneak in some learning and reading comprehension.... Here are my favorite Thanksgiving Activities for Kindergarten

• Read the Book, Pete the Cat, The First Thanksgiving  - This book is a great learning tool!  Pete the Cat is a Pilgrim on the Mayflower.  It is a little "history lesson" wrapped in a Pete the Cat book!
• Watch the movie,  Squanto and the First Thanksgiving  - Another fun learning tool that also provides a history lesson.  This is a "calming" movie - someone reads a book, showing the illustrations to bring it alive.  This is also not a lighthearted story - it talks about slavery, etc.  It does not "sugar coat" the First Thanksgiving experience.
• Have a potluck Thanksgiving feast!  You could do this on a big scale, or a small one - where students taste test cranberries, or pumpkin!
• Act out The First Thanksgiving.  Like Pete the Cat does in his First Thanksgiving book.
• Make a Paper Plate Turkey Craft
• Make a Pete the Cat Pilgrim craft
• Read another Thanksgiving Book for Children
• Make some Thanksgiving Slime
• Make some Autumn Play Dough
• Have the kids make an easy kid made gift for a loved one.
• Make Thanksgiving Cards
• Disguise a Turkey!  Read Turkey Trouble or How to Catch a Turkey.  Then Disguise a Turkey!  
• Decorate Thanksgiving Cookies - (As a teacher I would often go to the local bakery or grocery store and ask for "plain" cookies...  then I would buy frosting and frost them with my kids
• Read and sing There was an old lady who swallowed a Turkey and make an Old Lady Craft
• Play Turkey Bowling
• Play Beginning Sound Thanksgiving Bingo
• Do fun Thanksgiving Literacy Activities for Kindergarten
• Make a cute Thanksgiving Plate craft
• Roll a Turkey
• Make Cranberry structures for a STEM activity
• Do some Thanksgiving Yoga
• Play Gratitude Pick up Sticks
• Play this Skittles Gratitude Game
• Make a pumpkin volcano
• Make homemade butter - I remember doing this as a child!  It takes a class to shake and shake the glass!
• Do some Thanksgiving writing prompts
• Play count the feathers on the turkey.
• Dissect a pumpkin and count the seeds
• Make pumpkin pies for the homeless shelter (we do this at our school).
• Talk about Thanksgiving family traditions
• Help children practice writing names by making place-cards for their family
