Teaching ESL Essentials
Let’s face it. Teaching a student to read who has English as a Second Language is difficult.
You wonder whether you are enough.
Together we will help your little reader.
A confident reader LOVES to read.
When a child feels good about reading, they WANT TO READ MORE.
Let’s help your little reader gain confidence.
All you need are 15 minutes a day,
the right tools and a little bit of fun.
We are here to help you.
You CAN teach your little reader!
We are here to help you.
Here is what moms and teachers have to say about our program.
Detailed lessons!
I have just begun using this program with my 3.5 year old son. He loves the bright colored pictures and the stories are interesting to him. The lesson plans are very detailed, which I appreciate since I have never taught young children before. Thank you!
Everything I need to help teach!
Excited to start this with my son at home. Thank you for spelling out everything I need to do to help him fully learn to read and comprehend!
Gaining confidence!
We LOVE your site! It has made my son excited about being able to read each page. At the end of the day, he takes his worksheet around reading it to everyone he sees! He’s gaining so much confidence, which is amazing to see because he previously had such a bad self concept about reading.
Morning Message Success!
“I am using this as a Morning Message in kindergarten. I love that it includes a lot of our sight words. The kids are really enjoying it and the kids are very proud of themselves for being able to read it. I love how it includes a variety of punctuation marks and the kids are learning to read with expression.”
Experienced Teacher LOVE
“I have taught Kindergarten for 11 years. I came across this program last year and immediately loved it! It is so child-friendly, teacher-friendly, and perfectly aligned to our curriculum! It even includes a Reading Readiness Assessment, sight word flash cards, and step-by-step tutorials on how to use the resources. After beginning this program with my students i the middle of the year, I saw a huge growth in their word recognition and fluency. My End of Year scores for Reading were the highest they have ever been in my 11 years of teaching! I would highly recommend this program for all teachers who wants to see their students develop a love of reading!”
Beginning Readers feel proud!
“An excellent resource for beginning readers. I love how it covers word concept and correspondence. It covers so many topics for beginning readers. I can’t wait to see the results on my beginning readers! Thanks.”
Imagine being able to see the light bulb moment when your little reader KNOWS she can read and UNDERSTANDS what she reads.
You are enough. You can help your little reader gain confidence and learn to read.
Hi, I am Meeghan. I wondered and worried if I could teach my little reader reader. Sure I studied education in school, but, am I enough? Would I be able to reach her? Would I be able to teach her?
And then it happened. I’ll never forget the first time I saw that light bulb moment. I knew that SHE KNEW THAT SHE WAS READING. Her eyes got big, she started to grin. She pointed to the words and read them confidently and eagerly.
“Do you want to read it again?” I asked.
“Yes”, she nodded with a smile.

How to Teach the Alphabet – Teacher’s Manual and posters/coloring pages
Teaching the alphabet is easy with these 3 alphabet posters you can laminate and use in your classroom.
The Carousel Alphabet highlights the upper case letters, the lower case letters, the vowels, and the different printed/type font.
Upper case letters are printed above lower case letters.
Vowels have a pink background, consonants have a white background,
Different fonts for the letters a, g, I, J, and t that frequently confuse children are explicitly taught.
This alphabet highlights the three different types of “g”s that frequently confuse children it teaches the children that even though they look differently, they all sound (and are) the same. (Other letters that look differently are the “a”, the “I”, the “J”, and the “t”.
A step-by-step guide on how to teach confusing letters upper and lower case, and vowels and consonants is included.
There are three different alphabets included in this packet.
1) A simple learning alphabet without pictures. By introducing this alphabet first, the students are less confused and easily learn upper and lower case concepts, vowels and consonants, and the confusing fonts.
2) A colorful fun carousel alphabet – again with upper case letters higher than lower case letters, pink colored background for vowels and white color for consonants, and animals that highlight the different fonts of each letter that frequently confuse children.
3) A black and white carousel alphabet that children can color.
There are so many fun details and suggestions in this teachers manual and alphabet banner. For instance, on the letter c, there is a centipede that is crawling up the carousel. On the centipede are the letters ‘ce/ci/cy’ – this helps the students remember that when you see these letter combinations, the ‘c’ sounds like an ‘s’. The animals that help teach the letter ‘g’ are the giraffe and the goat -highlighting the different sounds a ‘g’ can make.

I work with TK students that have hearing loss but use cochlear implants and hearing aids. So they use listening and spoken language to communicate. The sight and sound program is perfect for my students. They enjoy the pictures with the text too! The printouts they take home and practice with their parents. New words we write on index cards and they flip through those as well.
My colleague discovered your program after some research and turned me on to it. She teaches Kinder and 1st grade. We work with all levels of reading so it’s perfect.
Thank you!! Your resources are positively impacting our students’ literacy skills and for that I am grateful. 🙂
Frequently Asked Questions
What is your teaching philosophy?
We believe that all children can learn to read. If Helen Keller could accomplish so much with so many challenges, then every child can learn and thrive. We believe that in order to teach a child to read, you have to build confidence. A confident reader loves to read. A struggling reader does not like to read because reading does not feel good.
Sight Words or Phonics?
Both! You need both! We initially teach a controlled vocabulary of sight words. This allows the little reader to gain confidence and only read the words they know. As the little reader feels confident, we introduce phonics and word families. We introduce letters and letter sounds throughout the entire process as well.
How long to I need each day to teach?
Our program takes 15 minutes each day. We give you explicit directions that you can read before hand and then it takes about 10 minutes to teach and 5 minutes for practice. In addition, we give you many extra worksheets and activities in this essentials pack so that your little reader gets and extra 10 minutes of fun to further reinforce concepts learned that day (or week).
How old does my littler reader have to be?
There really is no “correct” age. Usually a child is ready around age 5… but, really you want to see if the child is “reading ready” to see if you are ready to begin. We include a reading readiness test within this pack so that you can test your reader. You can always begin and when and if your child struggles, you pause. …wait a few days, repeat where you left off (or start over). The important thing is that your little reader has confidence…if they start to struggle at all, they are not ready. We have had people teach using our program as young as 3.5, and we have had adults learn to read using our program! We have also taught many ESL students of all ages and many special needs students. We get thank you letters all the time from people all over the world with all different abilities and languages. The key is confidence.
